According to the RepCore® Banking 2024 study, conducted by Reputation Lab, just over half of Spaniards, 53%, support the imposition of additional taxes on banks' profits, while 65% support the introduction of new regulations to protect consumers.
These are the conclusions of this report, which places Spanish banks as the least reputable of the 15 Ibero-American countries analysed, nine points below the average of the countries analysed. Factors such as access to credit, transparency and ethical behaviour are the worst rated areas, although it stands out positively in terms of the security of operations and technological development.
"What we clearly see in the RepCore® Banking 2024 study is the strong correlation between the reputation of banks and the supportive attitudes of consumers. A weak reputation of the banking sector positions a large majority of respondents in favour of more regulation on banks to protect consumers or the introduction of special taxes for credit institutions", says Fernando Prado, partner at Reputation Lab.
