RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP AND COUNTRY REPUTATION
Empresability, Ibero-American Movement for Social Responsibility and Sustainability – 2nd Empresability Responsible Leadership Mission – Cancún 2026
Reputation Lab thanks Empresability, Sustainability & Social Responsibility Movement for the opportunity to participate with a keynote presentation at the Mission held at Anáhuac University in Cancún, with the central theme of “Responsible Leadership.”
The title of the presentation by our partner, Fernando Prado, was “Responsible Leadership and Country Reputation: How Reputation Generates Soft Power in a World Dominated by Force.”
As geopolitical tensions rise and international relations become more transactional, “hard power” (military and economic) clearly dominates the global playing field. However, this shift does not mean that the values shaping public perception have changed.
The findings of RepCore® Nations, Reputation Lab’s analysis of national reputations, show that international public opinion continues to evaluate countries from the perspective of “soft power”: ethics and responsibility, respect for human rights, sustainability, transparency, and institutional quality remain decisive factors in building admiration, respect, and trust. This creates a strategic opportunity for countries with a solid reputation based on democratic values and responsible leadership.
Our analysis consistently shows that reputation is not merely symbolic. Countries with a solid reputation, based on sustainability, democratic quality, and ethical governance, reap tangible rewards in terms of international preference, with a measurable impact on tourism, investment, and economic resilience.
“Hard power” may dominate geopolitics, but reputation continues to drive preference.
