Reputation Lab Highlights the Importance of Moving from Reputation Measurement to Management

Fernando Prado, Managing Partner of Reputation Lab, participated in Reputation Day Costa Rica 2026, where he explored how reputation metrics can become valuable tools for guiding business decisions and creating value.

San José, Costa Rica, October 29, 2026

Fernando Prado, Co-founder and Managing Partner of Reputation Lab, was a speaker at the first edition of Reputation Day Costa Rica, held on October 29 in San José and organized by Agencia Interamericana de Comunicación and Luis Mastroeni Business Trainer. The event brought together more than 200 representatives from public and private organizations to discuss the main challenges of corporate reputation management.

In his presentation, “Managing Reputation: Much More Than Measurement,” Prado emphasized the need to move beyond approaches focused exclusively on assessing reputation and toward models that help organizations identify priorities, guide decisions, and evaluate the impact of their actions.

“We need to measure reputation in order to manage it. But measurement is not management,” he stated, highlighting that reputation metrics should become genuine key performance indicators (KPIs), integrated into organizations’ management dashboards.

From Metrics to Business Decisions

The presentation explored the importance of reputation as a strategic asset and its influence on stakeholder decisions, which can translate into supportive behaviors and tangible business outcomes.

Drawing on examples from Reputation Lab’s international research, Prado demonstrated how statistical relationships between reputation and business-relevant variables, such as purchase intention, recommendation, and willingness to invest, can be quantified.

He also reviewed the evolution of corporate reputation measurement methodologies, from the earliest models developed in the late 20th century to RepCore, the methodology developed by Reputation Lab in 2020. RepCore combines comparability across organizations with the flexibility needed to address the specific characteristics of different industries and companies.

Another key topic was the importance of avoiding common measurement pitfalls, such as confusing a company’s actual performance with stakeholder perceptions, using indicators that do not genuinely measure reputation, or setting priorities without analyzing which factors have the greatest influence on it.

Turning Insights into Action Plans

The presentation concluded with a reflection on the importance of translating reputation assessments into concrete action plans.

Managing reputation requires understanding stakeholder expectations, identifying gaps between reality and perception, setting priorities, and coordinating initiatives across different areas of the organization.

This process involves combining initiatives aimed at improving business performance with communication efforts that help stakeholders recognize and appreciate what organizations already do well. It also requires anticipating and managing risks that could damage their reputation.

Ultimately, reputation measurement delivers real value only when it contributes to better decisions and improved organizational performance.

Reputation Lab thanks Agencia Interamericana de Comunicación, its partner in Costa Rica, and Luis Mastroeni for the invitation to participate in Reputation Day 2026 and the opportunity to share these insights with Costa Rica’s business and professional community.
